Guided Birding and Book Presentation with Gavin McKinnon and Dave Scott

Join Gavin McKinnon and Dave Scott on Saturday, May 23, as he presents his new book, The Field Guide to the Birds of Alberta. This is a unique opportunity to connect Alberta birds and the experts who know them best.

Gavin McKinnon and Dave Scott are making a very special appearance here at Ellis Nature Centre to present their new bird identification guide, The Field Guide to the Birds of Alberta. Join us as they share the stories and experiences of getting this guide from concept to final copies.

The morning will begin with a guided birding session from 8-10am, where participants can head out on the trails to observe our migratory species and learn practical bird identification skills. This portion of the event is $15 per person and is limited to 25 participants.

Guests are then invited to the guide presentation and talk from 11am-12pm, where Gavin and Dave will discuss the process behind creating a comprehensive, provincial field guide and discuss the differences amongst birds in Alberta. Books will be available for purchase and signing. This portion of the morning is a free, public event and is open for drop-in attendance.

Whether you are an experienced birder or just starting out, this is a unique opportunity to connect with Alberta’s birds and the experts that know them best.
