Summer Job Position: Nature Interpreter
We are seeking a motivated Nature Interpreter to join our organization. In this position, you will
assist the Education Coordinator with delivering environmental education programming at a
nature sanctuary in Central Alberta. We provide programming to children and adults with the
goal to create awareness the environment and wildlife conservation. We are looking for outgoing
and creative leader with a background in Science and/or Education. Professionalism, a strong
work ethic and leadership skills are required. The ideal candidate has a strong interest and
knowledge of nature and local wildlife ecology.
Employment Type: Full Time Seasonal, May-August
Qualifications:
- A returning student working towards a diploma or degree in Biology/Environmental Science or Education discipline
- Experience with teaching children or leadership required
- Ability to interact with the public.
- Ability to learn, research and coordinate environmental education topics and programming
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and speaking skills
- First Aid and CPR an asset
- Knowledge of local wildlife ecology an asset
- Experience with animals (goats, chickens, bees) an asset
Key Responsibilities:
- Delivering environmental education programming to school aged children
- Professional and courteous interactions with general public
- Engaging with visitors in informal learning opportunities
- Work both indoors and outdoors in a rural environment
- Assist with organizing special events and guest presenters
- Assist with delivery public activities
- Assist with front desk/reception and gift shop
- Other duties include organizing materials, maintenance and daily site chores
